From recording to written story
Remento transforms every recorded memory into writing. After a storyteller shares a story through audio or video, Remento automatically creates a transcript and gives you options for how that story appears in the final book. These tools are designed to preserve the storyteller’s voice while allowing you to adjust for readability and tone.
You don't need to download anything or install special software. All editing and writing settings are available directly on the story page from any device.
Three ways to turn speech into writing
Remento offers three modes for generating written stories. You can preview and switch between them at any time.
Cleaned transcript
This version reflects exactly what the storyteller said, with “ums,” “ahs,” and filler words removed. It adds punctuation and paragraph breaks for clarity. It keeps the original voice intact and simply makes the story easier to read.
First-person story
This version restructures the recording into a written narrative in the storyteller’s voice. It reads as if they had written it themselves. You can adjust the story length before generating the preview. This option is ideal when you want a smoother, more polished version that still feels personal.
Third-person story
This version rewrites the transcript as if a biographer were telling the story about the storyteller. It introduces a bit of distance while preserving tone and key details. This mode is useful for families who want stories to feel more formal or legacy-focused. Length is also adjustable in this mode.
In every case, the original recording is preserved. You can always listen to it from the Remento dashboard. In the printed book, a QR code links to the original audio or video.
How to update a story’s style
To change a story’s format, go to the Stories tab and open the one you want to edit. Click the Edit button below the text. Then choose cleaned transcript, first person, or third person. If you choose a rewritten format, use the slider to select the desired length. Press Preview to generate the version, then Save once you're happy with it.
If you'd like to fine-tune the story even further, you can click Edit story manually. This lets you update the title, make sentence-level edits, and add extra context or corrections as needed. You have full control over the final version.
Edit from any device
Remento’s editing tools are fully accessible from phones, tablets, and computers. You can update writing settings, revise the story, and save changes without needing to install an app. Whether you're on mobile or desktop, the interface is optimized for ease of use.
Set your default story style
If you have a preferred writing format, you can make it the default for all future recordings. Go to Project Settings, then scroll to Transcription mode and click Edit. Choose cleaned transcript, first person, or third person, and then save your preference. This setting applies only to new stories. To change previous stories, you'll need to update them one by one.
